Louise and Will's Nintendo Wedding!

Writer's picture: Anya MarcoAnya Marco

After my own wedding was featured in Rock n Roll Bride magazine I had a flurry of enquiries about my flowers and this essentially led to this little business taking off! The first order came from the lovely Louise who was planning a Nintendo themed wedding! I could not believe my luck because as a life long fan of Zelda, the idea of making flowers to match the Nintendo colours as my first custom order was a dream come true. How awesome would this be! Well as you can tell from Louise's summary of how everything came together and the day itself, pretty damn awesome!

How we met

Tinder! He said he was ‘after something proper, please’ in his profile which I thought was adorable. Swiped right, we matched then I messaged him. We arranged to meet up a few days later in Hammersmith and the rest is history!

About a year into our relationship whilst in a bar in Berlin we both said we would like to get married and that we would declare it open season for one of us asking the other to marry them, which ended up with me proposing to him a couple of months later, so it was more a series of conversations than a standard proposal!

Planning the Wedding

Will was happy for me to take the lead as I like organising things. We knew we didn’t want anything that didn’t suit us and we knew we wanted just a fun day with lots of food and drink and things for people to do. We had a budget we needed to stick to so cut corners where we felt like they could be and I got lucky winning some online competitions too. Friends and family offered to help which was amazing and really helped cut the costs down.

The Wedding Theme

I originally had an ideal of grey, yellow and teal as a colour theme but Will didn’t seem that bothered. Then during a slightly drunken chat about retro computer games I suggested we should base our wedding around Nintendo and the colours red, yellow, blue and green which Will was totally on board with. It ended up being a really great idea and we were able to get loads of things for the wedding that fit the theme and really suited our personalities.

What made you decide to have Felt Flowers as your wedding flowers?

We had chosen Spring to get married, and both Will and I suffer badly with hay fever so that was a major thing we needed to take into account! But primarily I knew that something a bit different or unusual would be more fitting than a big bouquet, and I loved the idea that the bridesmaids and I would have something we could keep after. Plus having something made for you means you can have any colour scheme you want!

How was your experience working with Felt + Fings?

It was brilliant. Anya kept me involved in the process every step of the way, checking the colours were exactly what I wanted and showing me flowers she’d thought of using for it but letting me jump in when I thought that a particular flower or colour wasn’t quite right. It was a great process and the final products were fantastic, we couldn’t be happier.

What did your guests/wedding party/photographer think of the flowers?

They loved them! Everyone commented on the bouquets and boutonnieres and said how unique they were. As they were so bright and colourful they showed up really well in our photos too. Our photographer Graham (a good friend of Will’s) loved snapping them.

Doing it Yourself!

I had a big idea in my head that I wanted to do a lot of DIY myself but then a year before our wedding we decided to leave London and move to Sheffield and so the few DIY ideas I had were replaced with getting amazing people to help us which was a total weight off my shoulders. Amy Victoria made the venue look amazing and we had a giant Nintendo themed colouring in board made by Grandeluxeco. Will’s sister made our cake which was also Nintendo themed and amazing. I designed our wedding website and our stationary which a great friend printed for us, and I made perler bead characters for all the tables which were still used on the day, so we still had some personal touches in there.

The Best Part of the Day

Seeing everything come together after so long, and seeing everyone having such an amazing time, and people telling me how fun it all was. That was what was important for me, people having a great day.

What Would you Do Differently?

I wish I’d have been a bit less stressed and worried about everything coming together. Nothing else though, it was exactly what we wanted. The suppliers, the venue, the guests, the weather, it was brilliant.

A Piece of Advice

Do what you want, forget anyone else’s opinions and remember the most important people that your wedding needs to suit are you and your partner. Plus you will have a wealth of brilliant people that you are friends with or related to who can help out with things if you need to save money or if you need an extra pair of hands, so don’t be afraid to ask. But mainly make sure there’s enough food and booze on the day. Also take some comfortable shoes to change into. Oh and make sure you eat because you absolutely will forget to eat.
